PETER DOIG Born Edinburgh 1959 Born in Edinburgh in 1959, Peter Doig was raised in Trinidad (1962-66) and Canada (1966-1979) and trained in London at Wimbledon School of Art (1979-1980) and St Martin’s School of Art (1980-83, BA). He returned to Canada in 1986, before moving back to London in 1989, where he studied at Chelsea School of Art (1989-1990, MA). Doig won the Whitechapel Artist Award in 1991 and in 1993 won first prize in the John Moore’s Liverpool Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery. He was also awarded the inaugural Eliette von Karajan Prize and in 1994 was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. From 1995-2000, the artist was a Trustee of Tate Gallery, London. Doig moved to Trinidad in 2002, and now lives between the Caribbean island, London and New York.
